Everything Depends on Him

Al-Sa'di: الصَّمَد means every created thing — from the greatest angel to the smallest atom — is directed toward Allah in its need. Nothing exists independently. Everything is in continuous dependence on Him.

💎

He Needs Nothing

Ibn Kathir: part of الصَّمَد is that Allah has no needs — no hunger, no sleep, no support, no offspring for help. The Creator has no needs because He created needs. Self-sufficiency is His alone.

🔗

The Answer to All Idolatry

Al-Sa'di: every false god fails the test of الصَّمَد — idols need worshippers to maintain them. Saints need sustenance. Only Allah is truly الصَّمَد — needing nothing, sustaining everything.
